Older generations cut their teeth on manual transmissions so they don't think it's any big deal. Good on her for sticking with it, though. My mom grew up on a farm driving everything from old International flatbeds to hay balers but she only does automatics now.

In the UK, so do younger generations: you have to take your driving test in a manual to get a full licence, and the vast majority of cars are still manuals. But I thought some US-bound Jalops would get a kick out of it for the novelty—and, hey, I'll admit that even I found it pretty funny to watch the Queen just driving along.

For another bit of fun trivia, she could probably service and repair it too: she served as an army technician, working on Land Rovers, during The War.

I've seen the pictures of a young Liz working in the motor pool. It's very cool.
